Personally I've always preferred Sibelius for my composition (another notation/composition program). Love it. Never really got on with Finale, although I did use a very old version. I bought Sibelius 2, Education price, for about £250 I believe. Music Scholarship money well spent! :D (I also use ...

Interesting :). Hadn't actually thought of modifying airsoft guns like this, and makes sense for film use. Although could be a little expensive if a mistake was made breaking the gun. But you seem to know what you're doing :). But as I'm a skirmisher I would kinda like my BB's to be pushed up into t...

Something I've noticed is that there seems to be a little confusion as to what "airsoft" really means, and the classes of airsoft guns. I've seen evidence of this of many boards - not just this one. Just a few pointless points I'd like to make... Airsoft guns ONLY fire 6mm plastic BB's (Bu...

Heh, I bet some of you guys were waiting for me to chip in.. ;) Yes I admit, the film idea we had fell through (big surprise there!) but I'm still interested! Anyway, as some people said, I feel the best airsoft guns to go for for film use (although many of what has been mentioned pushes the definit...

Or, a more realistic but more expensive method is to fit an airsoft tracer unit to an airsoft gun (say, an AEG) and use that with tracer rounds mixed with standard bb's. Looks damned impressive. You might be able to find usable kit on ebay for not too much, although it'd have to be something with a ...

:)

Don't worry, I'd be more impressed if we actually even got close to finishing in the time we have for it! Especially as it's our first film! (we do have backing from the uni film society who can apparently provide crew, speak to people, sort things out etc. which is handy).

Epsilon: Yeah, I noticed! Sometimes you see real guns firing, and most of the shots don't produce a muzzle flare at all... As for the length, well, we don't really know yet! It's quite a detailed story (so quite long), and the chances are we just won't be able to do it all, especially as we need mor...

We are working on a full film, but unfortunately we really don't have the time at the moment to get any good filming or work on it done. And we also don't currently have access to a proper camera(s), but we will do. Once our exams are over, we're gonna work on it nearly solidly for a month to get it...

Who said anything about your prop being wrong? degales are cool Ah no, noone said that, I was just responding to Epsilon's "little pistols" quote ;). Thanks for your input guys, we'll see what we can do to improve it. Next test - fight scene (we have it choreographed and practiced already...

Yeah well, I've already explained why :P

I've got an idea how to tone the brightness down and make it the correct colour - we'll do another better test sometime to see if it works.

Oh and btw, it's about as little a pistol as you can get - only a Desert Eagle ;).

I honestly wouldn't know :P.

My knowledge of what 'real' gunfire looks like comes from the movies! Although I admit it is a little bright, but for the film we won't be having gunfights and like like in such small rooms (hopefully).

Thanks for your comments :). (anyway, bedtime for me!)

Not blue, no. Maybe what we could do is put a filter over that single (set of) frame(s) to change the colour to amber or something... It was a test for the end of a certain dream sequence in our film, so actually we weren't sure whether to add a gunshot sound or not. Obviously the music's wrong for ...

I think that sound is actually me collapsing on the bed! (Edit - misread post). [edit] We actually did add a gunshot sound, but for some reason that wasn't included in the final render... [/edit] Obviously like I said it was a quick and dirty play that spawned that video, so it's not refined in any ...

http://cerby.no-ip.com/~durandal/MeShootsMe2.avi (about 2meg) There it is. I do warn you now though... It was filmed on my Sony P72 digicam, in a dark room, so the quality is awful. Especially as I had to manually whack up the brightness later. Also, please excuse the rather horrific 'merging line'...

Re the video I made above - I've had a look at it, it's very, very dark. I'm currently very busy at the moment, but I'll try to brighten it up a bit before I post the link here. Looks pretty good! We made a similar test of our own, where I pointed a Deagle at my duplicates head, and pulled the trigger. The shooter and the victim are both lit up by the muzzle flash (as well as including a small flame from the barrel) and we also animated a bit of particle brain matter before...

Airsoft guns are occasionally called BB Guns too, just to confuse matters, but in this case BB stands for "Bullet Ball" rather than Ball Bearing. Yes they're plastic, but they're not (unless a mod job has been done, which is rare) fired by CO2 or electricity :P. I know what you mean though...

Swansea. You? Trouble is, I'm in my final year at uni, got sh*tloads of work to do at the moment, and our exams finish on the 5th June. Gyro - you said that you were told it wasn't illegal to have replicas in public places, and I'm sure it isn't in the US. However, as the government here in the UK are "anti-gun shape anti-gun shape!" they've made it illegal to be transporting replica guns through public areas without a val...

Fair enough. You fill up the metal magazine with specialist airsoft gas. It has a tiny valve at its base. That means that if/when you run out of bb's/gas (a full mag charge lasts about 35 pellets or so - my mag holds 26), a quick mag change is all that's required to 'recharge' the pistol. Quite hand...

GBB's are very good, we intend to use them a lot in our next film, as well as my G36c AEG. Should be fun :)

An EBB is kinda like a GBB, but far more plasticy with very little recoil, power or accuracy. But then again, I'm used to using GBB's which are far better, but far more expensive. You get what you pay for. For just playing around in the house, back garden or for limited use in films, an EBB is prett...

For our film which we're quickly running out of time to shoot (no pun intended), we intend to use two GBB Desert Eagles, my Tactical Master (Beretta) GBB, a fully auto Glock 18c GBB with metal slide and extended mags, and my G36c AEG. The G36c will only be fired in a long shot, as there's no recoil ...

For me to apply for a music scholarship at my uni, they required a recording of me playing my trumpet so they could assess if I was worthy of £1000 each year. So I borrowed a nice ~£80 vocal mic from school (can't remember the model, but it was a solid, heavy, wired Audio Technica) and set it ...
