filters?

say i have a xl1 should I buy a contrast filter and have it on all the way through the shoot so it gives it a different look.

surely if you cant change that in post, overwise why are there filters for sale??

you can do some stuff in post, while others require filters from the begining, but if you do it in post, it either looks of less quality or gives a different result. Or simply less rendering time in post!

i alway wondered how they got that yellow look in "lock stock and two smoking barrels" is that a light yellow filter?

Robert Rodregaz alway look very contrasted.

what filters do you recommand??

well im no expert in such things but i know that polarizers are very good, they make things much more saturated and reduce glare. In other words makes your movie look less white and more colorful, and reduces glare which is important if your filming a person inside a window. right now im saving up money for a polarizer.

p.s. polarisation cannot be done in post!

Tiffen filters aren't the best. In fact, they're only a notch above generic brand filters. Hoya and B&W are far superior.

I guess I always go by this mentality: Try to get the best and cleanest shots you can right from the start but keeping in mind what your final idea/ vision is going to be. I dont use filters unless I know that there is a reason that I have to for the final look of something. Other wise I find I can get the same effect in post generally.

it depends because if you want to film for instance a fish swimming under some water at a pond and the sun is reflecting off of the water then without filters you would just see the reflection of the sun, but with a polarizer you could see right through it!!! pluys it looks better with a filter rather than just cracnking up the saturation in post!

i saw alot of skateboarding videos use some special filter/lense to get the fish eye look.. what the filter/lense called? and how about those panoramic view.. how does it captured?.. sorry i'm very new in videos..

different shaped lenses and filters are very very different subjects in my opinion, i know a tiny bit about filters but i dont know anything about different lenses

Well you nailed it there naflish, it's called a fisheye lens. Just about every company selling glass for cameras has 'em, you can pick a cheapie up for around $50 if you look. I'm sure there are filters you can add in post too, but those would just be sort of counter-productive to what you're doing.

how about those IR filters? i heard it can be use to see-thru shirts.. is it true?.
i'm using panasonic nv-gs11, do they hv IR filter for it ?

see through shirts eh?...... by IR i would suggest you mean Infra-Red and that sees heat, so ya it would see bodu heat, but i dont think just a filter can show you the IR spectrum i believe you need a special IR camera... i dont know but thats what i think

of course its a scam but still too bad eh? IR would be black and white, unless you combined it with enhanced light type thingy (that would be night vision). you wouldnt be able to see through the person though
