It's a bomb!!!!

Post by KayBeck »

I need to construct a bomb prop...on the cheap of course.

Something with possibly a countdown timer and roughly the size of a laptop.

Any suggestions?

Do you want it to open like a laptop? If so take two pieces of wood hinge them together and paint to the appropriate color. If not, well be creative the world is available to you, you just have to look. Good Luck!

Check out the bomb we made for Hollow Point

http://www.matthawkins.co.uk/item-1.html

Blocks of clay, curly wire, black plastic box with red buttons on it. Sorted.

We are going to add the countdown in CGI once the film has been edited.

The Matrix Regrets bomb looks cool :)

Really, things like this you need to get down and dirty. Make it up, build it from your own imagination instead of always relying on other. That is what makes filmmaking so much fun!

That bomb for Hollow point was partially what I based mine off of. I also used a still of the bomb from the elevator in the first Matrix to help design the control box.

If you're wanting to do something the size of a laptop, I'd find a cheap briefcase off Ebay and just make a control device in there. Play dough should make a cheap material for the explosive charge.

Also, if you're wanting a countdown timer like mine "has" it's a lot harder. I looked for quite awhile and didn't find any pre made circuits that would do the countdown. So I just bought the display LEDs and decided I'll animate the digital display in post. I did a test and it's really very easy as long as the camera doesn't move.

If you need help finding the countdown LED things, let me know and I'll try to find the website I ordered them off of.

If the camera moves, you can try to prepare it for camera match. But real countdown LEDs look the best.

The camera in my shots will be holding still. In fact, I'll probably just be using a still picture.
