Is the hum caused by the actual motion of the tape machine ? or is it electrical hum from the mains ? if its electrical from the mains - it may be possible to filter or EQ out the hum. Good Point Matt. Same applies with sample rates, CD quality is 44,100 Hz. But professional recording equipment can record up to 192,000 Hz.
