Portfolios??

Anyone build an online and physical portfolio? I had one when I lived in the US but I haven't needed it in a long time. I need to build a new one, but it's been years since I made one and am not sure what people are looking for these days. Anyone have an example of their own or someone they know? Th...

We did it the Savini way.. kind of... A quick and dirty latex copy of a lifecast of the victim, once dry fill with plaster and run off. Whats left inside makes a thin but sturdy shell (fake cranium), fill with foam pieces, blood filled condoms, gelatine... I even use extra latex pieces I had just cu...

I'll have to look

Somewhere I have an article form an engineering magazine from years ago, it shows how to use a bike chain so it still turns but has no blades. I also have seen situations where they use a dremmel or heavy file, remove the chain and round off the blades/points on the chain. Yes it could possibly stil...

1 step at a time..

First you need to make a cast of your life cast, so you have a mold. If you are on a limited budget, forget foam latex, it is expensive and often times difficult to work with. It takes a lot of experiementation and smells terrible when baking. Stick with latex slush casting for your first time. Here...

We did a scene where a guy gets his skin taken off with a potato peeler during a torture scene. I used a cut section from a plastic milk jug, used some surgical adhesive to keep it to the arm, latexed it with a fim built latex, and in the pocket between the plastic and the appliance I put a small ba...

fake skinned arm?

I am making a crusified guy on a scarecrow rig, who' right arm has been skinned, leaving only meat, bones and gore behind, especially on the hand portion. I have a real skeleton arm thats wired well together. Any input on what to cover it with would be useful. I need to give the impression of shredd...

RE: Body Double - for lifecasting?

No actually I had asked about gelatine before, I just found smooth on, I did mention it on another board to try to get a wide range of opinions.

RE: Body Double - for lifecasting?

I am in the U.S., what do you mean by moulage? Here that is considered the creating of Trauma Makeup and wounds, not an actual product?

Body Double - for lifecasting?

Has anyone used smooth-on products?
I am looking at trying body-double for a face cast and just curious if anyone has used it before?

I have done this before, here is how: 1) For gore I find stewed tomatoes, peeled and chopped works best. 2) For a constant blood pore, funnel it into a tube (like you would a beer funnel) and raise it up and over the shot, slowly poring the blood into it and run the tube into the body portion of the...

RE: if you were a newbie?

I asked him what parts he wanted to do and he said he wanted to try a leg and an arm+hand just to see how hard it was. I am hoping he doesn't mean his own body parts, but .. whatever. Anyone ever try smooth-on products, they seem to be pretty easy, or shoudl I say something more basic?

body casting - if you were a newbie?

Ok here's a tough one. My younger (22 yrs, god I'm old) cousin saw the work I do and started saving his money to try it too. I did a life cast of him and now he wants to learn. He says he has about $250 saved and wants to know what he should be to start. Now it's been YEARS since I was in this posit...

But thanks for the clarification Bloody! yes I am asking about making the actual mold out of gelatine. I want to try a leg or face mold and am wondering if it will work and if it will be flexible to get my foot out, and what to pour into if I do.

I see the look your going for, just needs some adjustments. if your good with painting, give it a rusted/silver sheen and go for the old sheet metal look, or chunk it up and make it look like flesh sheets (cover it in pieces of latex). Just brush it up a little and it should work for what your doing...

To answer your question, both the colloidin and gelatine will work. if you use coloidin, remember to add a layer, then let it dry, then add another layer. The more you add, the deeper the effect and more 3d it gets. Too much and it will start to pull away form the skin. I would draw slightly with a ...

Has anyone ever tried using gelatine as a quick and dirty mold. Any idea if it would hold a cast for a quick body part mold or something similar?

If you want a spine to strtch and snap, use paper amche pre mix pulp and let it dry out for a day or 2, when you mix it, add som ehair to the mix, then when it is pulled apart (weaken the spot you want it to break with small incisions) the hair will hold it slightly and look even more disturbing whe...

I agree, the best item for what you need would be a simple foam head which you can get at any beauty or wig shop, also do a search online for styro. head, they are cheap and can be used for planning basic effects, especially for women's faces.

Th eeasiets way is to start with an old lab or fake skeleton, then build up stiated muscle with latex in strips (painted). When I am doing a dry body (dead for some time or emablmed) I like to used dark red, blus and green thin woven yarn for veins and details. My best advice is to invest a a few ve...

Computer based v/s makeup based effects...

Is there any way to separate these two, I know you can always use the search function, but it would be nice to be able to view the list withouth searching through 45 pages, most of which are computer based, for makeup FX tips.

Just a thought.
