Quite amusing isn't. I mean, just think. The very first MOTION picture was an array of still cameras set along a race horse track, connected to trip wires, so each camera took a photo in turn as a horse ran past. Lore has it that the rig was set up to settle a bet about whether or not a horse ever h...

Here's my bluescreen and how it was built.
For lighting, I used two flouresant (sp?) shop lights (2 tubes each) just for the screen.
(you can kinda see one in the last picture of the screen)
Then, the foreground subjects were lit separately using halogen work lights.
Good luck!

I've heard that After Effects w/Production bundle does a good job with compositing.
I use Media Studio Pro and have been very happy with the results.

I'm actually scheduled to attempt this effect for a paying client this month. (The video is to be for a martial arts organization. Everyone attending the shoot is to bring a video camera and tripod so we should have a pretty good pile of cameras rolling.) If we manage to schedule the shoot and round...

Speaking of air...

If you have access to an air compressor or two, you could run hoses under the sand and just open a valve when you want sand to start kicking up.

Try junkyards

You may be able to find a "pre-deployed" airbag/steering wheel assembly at a local automotive junk yard.
The wheel cover will already be open.
All that's left is to rig a way to make it appear closed and then blast it open with some compressed air.

Build a wall.

The best way to do this is to actually build a quick wall, but not to standard building code. In real buildings, there are supports behind the painted drywall you see. Usually spaced every 16 inches or so. Without these, the drywall is still very ridged, but will break fairly easily. Drywall sheets ...

Painting & Compositing

There are several ways to do this, but most involve a combination of painting and compositing. One of the easiest ways would be to take a frame from your movie clip of the "clean" wall into a photo editor like Photoshop. Us photo shop to paint in ALL of the bullet impact holes. (You can us...

Rotoscoping a traditional laser is not too bad really. You only need to see the shot for a frame or two, then it usually goes out of frame or hits it's target.
Not nearly as tedious as rotoscoping a lightsaber fight ;)

Windows Media 9 Encoder -- WOW!

OK, I've been a big fan of DIVx and On2's VP3, but now... Yesterday, I installed Microsoft's new Media 9 encoder and WOW, this thing is just amazing. I really can't believe that it's free.
