Sword Fight

Post by Almondo99 »

Does anyone know of a good tutorial that shows how to choreograph a sword fight? A link or any help on making it look good would be appreciated.

Crouching tiger, hidden dragon has some of the best sword fights I've seen, I know you don't like it, but it has won ton awards on the fight scenes.

you need to suit a style of sword fighting to your scene and/or entire film.

Fast and lots of hits. Anyone know how to turn a piece of wood into a sword (looking) prop? Paint, cutting etc.

It would have to be hardwood I know that much lol. You want some heavy impact happening to help make it look convincing

Definitely hardwood, and it's going to require a lot of carving and fine sanding to get a smooth metal look.

Then of course you'll need some just barely glossy paint that resembles whatever metal the blade is made of, same for the hilt.

Make a cardboard template first and play around with it to get the size and so on right before you waste a ton of time and a bit of money making your final prop.

Just smash random stuff together yourself! Then you own all the rights to the sounds, AND it's more fun!

What you might want to invest in a two training swords, they are wooden and clost maybe 15 bucks each, they are cheep safe, and don't break to easy, and with some paint would look like realish swords. but then I am aginst using wooden swords and go for the authentic kind which provide their own sound effects. :)

Yeah, you should try making the swords that the kids use in The Last Samurai. It would be cheap. :D
