I've been working on an effect where the foot is cut off, so I needed to make a stump for the cut off leg. This is what I made:
Do you think it looks good, realistic?

Looks pretty good except the meat should stick out of the pant leg and there should be some blood on the pants where it was cut. Is that a hamburger? It looks very good though, quickly edited even better.

Actually a hamburger is a good idea.
I made this one, however, out of styrofoam. I put some chocolate syrup/red food dye blood on the surface, and sealed it with syran wrap.
Thanks for the comments.

Oh yeah now I can tell, there's some white around the edges. You could take some blood of in the center and that could be the bone.

Does that make the quality of the blood on the stump last a long time, or forever?
It's become evident that the blood kinda wears away after a while for me, so I'd really have to touch up on it before the actual shoot.

Nope, don't mind at all.

Great work, perhaps a little wide for an ankle, but nice technique, I'll certainly keep it in mind for the future.

Very nice; is that a band-aid on the side of the pants?

like UFProductions said, it needs to be a little narrower being an ankle and all, but really it looks pretty damn good. I like it, Tom Savini would be proud.

It sounds like you've got a good looking prop, and I'd like to see it and comment, but all I get for the images are red Xs.

Seems like I went over my daily bandwidth. The images should fix themselves soon.

yes the images back would be great, I tend to build the stump with foam and them hot glue gun the end. The glue melts and eats in. Then generally i put a coating or 2 of coloured gelatin and then some fake blood painted on top.
This is the only pic I have at the moment on me. It is the early stage of building a leg stump up. The bone is real and has been shattered

Very cool, thanks for the info. I noticed you have a picture of a soldiers arm cut off in your Udds X production diary. Same method, I assume. It looks very nice.
