Day After Tomorrow-ish effects sequence
So here's this special effects sequence I've been working on with a bunch of my PixelCorps friends. It's a sequence where two tourists are trapped in a cable car while Rio de Janeiro is overcome by a Day After Tomorrow-style storm.

For some info about what went into making this, you can check out this thread at CGTalk:

This is for a CGSociety "FXWar" so if you like it, you'll probably want to head over there and check out the other really cool (mmm bad pun :p )entries, too:

RE: Day After Tomorrow-ish effects sequence
that takes way too long to d/l it, could you make it into 2 parts or something?

It looked really good. But not realistic looking (kinda like a video game), but it was an amazing feat. I really liked the shot were you see the cloud come over the beach.

It's under two minutes, but the res is pretty high (even though it's actually only half res )DEDFX wrote:that takes way too long to d/l it, could you make it into 2 parts or something?
Here's a 1/4 res version that's only 13 megs (most of the detail is lost in all the compression, but at least it's watchable ):

Thanks for the helpful feedback.maj_barnes wrote:It looked really good. But not realistic looking (kinda like a video game), but it was an amazing feat. I really liked the shot were you see the cloud come over the beach.
Yeah, there were a lot of shots that didn't polish up as well as we'd have hoped. The next time we do something like this, we'll need to plan on fewer shots that look totally real rather than 11 insanely complex shots. :p
Thanks again.

Better than anything I could ever do.
The opening shot was amazing, until you fly over thew city witch looked kidda weird (I think the perspective was wrong). But it was still proably some of the best CGI work I've on this forum.
