Project: "Hurtgen Forest" (WWII)

Post by tallman_house_pictures »

Hey everyone,
I am hopeing to make a short film based on a couple american rifle men in the battle of the Hurtgen Forest (shortly before the Battle of the Bulge).

Since winter will soon be here, I am hopeing to shoot shortly before the show comes, hopefully the weekend of the 22-23 of October.

All I have so far is that it will be largely a 2 person drama, of two american riflemen in the 4th division who are in a foxhole on a defensive line. They are constantly shelled, and attacked, and possibly they will go on a little attack. I am planning to make this a short, probably 5-10 minutes, and I have to get to the script soon.

In tems or props, I have one complete american out fit, with webbing, m43 jacket, proper helmet w/accessories, and m1 rifle.......and another nco's with a pistol belt w/webbing, m41 jacket, helmet and no primary weapon. I am hopeing to either have this guy with a captured mauser, or possibly a Springfield I would try to get my hands on by then. (My only other option is a $550 airsoft thompson).

For German stuff...I've got one rigged up pretty well...with a tunic that looks kind of like a german WWII one, with the correct heer tabs and breast eagle, and Spanish m42 (with mauser). I'm sure I can toss together a NCO's unform with an mp40 and pouches.

Now...anyone have any ideas for story, or events. Remember, I'
ve only got 2 main characters, and possibly 2 or 3 germans and another american as extras.

Basically, I havent made a WWII film since last decembet-january...so I just want to make a little short to brush up on things. I am hopeing to make another one this winter as well.

I'll post updates as they come...

Thanks.

i've got plenty of ideas floating around, don't want to give you them all, but
are you planning on having one or both of the americans killed, maybe do an ambush scene, they kind a transport route and attack, trip wire in there, sniper shots etc.
or
in foxhole, severly shelled, decide they have to make a run for it before they get killed, get spotted but a few germans who decide to open fire, one gets killed, heor act, the other tries to lug him to a safe place etc etc.

No, I'm in Canada where you cant get those. Customs will take em away if its shipped here, and you will be charged severely if you are caught with one at the border.

I am thinking of changeing this to the rhine crossing...because its with canadians and we could show it at school.

You could keep it the same, and in the middle of it have a random Canadian run by.

I just starting writing an idea, but now I'm going to use it for an English project. Sorry. And it had sooooooooo much irony and shocking coolness, it wasn't even funny.

But I'll keep on thinking of some.

Red Snow, Red as Snow, Winter's Dawn.

I don't know, come up with something that sounds cool, but also sounds kinda retarded.

Sounds like it would be better for a story on the russian front.

Matt, a little advice, if you do pull this off, at least give them the script. Also, I think it might be a good idea to take more than four hours to shoot. Just a suggestion.
