The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln: Now Avaliable

Post by BlakJakDavy »

Hey, thanks to all who helped me get the movie up and running!
I'm happy to announce that it is now up on google movies. I reccomend watching it in original size for best quality by clicking the bottom right corner arrow button and selecting 'original size' from the menu. Please feel free to add any comment, positive or negative, as I am always trying to improve and learn. Do keep in mind that it was shot in two days as a school project, however!

In case I'm scaring people away by using history words, this is not a documentary...It's a comedy. In real life, Lincoln's guard went to get drunk, allowing the assassin, John Wilkes Booth to get in...So we make fun of his guards for letting an inept Booth succeed.

Please let me know what you think of it!

And yes, I'm sorry I double posted. Naughty me.

It was alright. Really slow though, and I don't get why you called it The Assassination of insert any name. Besides saying his name a bunch of times...and the top hat. You should have called it like the The Assassination of Andy Linkworther or something. And I didn't get the beginning at all.

I did enjoy the jumping around in the hallway though, that was pretty funny. I was hoping he would pop up in the same doorway twice in a row and get all confused. And the gate was funny too.

You got some good elements, just need to be flushed out the right way.

Good work, few comments though

Filmmaking pointers
1. The first scen needed more close ups of the acotrs, rather than putting it on a tripod and saying your lines
2. also the one close up you did have you could tell the sound was dubbed
3. More Cuts- like me when i started getting into filmmaking i used to set the camera on a tripod or hand it to someone and follow the scene, you need to break the shots up more the make it more interesting
4. After the first scene, you went for the no sound yet with soundtrack effect which was great until you addeed to extra sounds eg. car skidding noises etc
5. The acotr who loaded the M16 in his car, didn't have a clue, i supoose this is a comedy so maybe it worked, its just we looked a bit of a retard

The Story
1. You had cool older/ teenage actors in there yet Abe Lincoln was like 6yrs old, maybe part of the comedy, not sure
2. Loved the truck you used, i want one

Good points are i was entertained, it was funny at times and an original story, keep it up

Edit: England IS the best country in the world- good work

Hehe, thanks for watching...

My little brother is thrilled with your response as he is 13 years old, but yes, we decided that would be part of the comedy after the guy who was supposed to be playing lincoln got sick and couldn't come. (Hence the first line in the film, "So he had to go and get sick on us!"). The sound did get a little messed up coz the laptop I was recording on was very loud itself but unable to capture sound very loud...

If I'd had more time I would have had more angles on the conversation, definately. One of my major goals for me (not the school project) was to expand the use of establishing shots, and I did do those on the second day when there were no scripts to learn and stuff, but I will certainly try to do more.

I did consider going completely silent, but it was odd watching him rattle the gate and jump on stuff with no accompanying noise, as it was with the cars taking off. (Plus I peeled in the civic a little and I wanted to leave that in). :P

The truck is a 2003 Toyota Tacoma SR5, and I'm a big fan, but I currently drive the civic after some idiot at school went on a keying rampage and got the truck.

*Spoiler*

This could ruin the illusion for some of you out there: Another inside thing is that the civic is a manual and I'm the only one who can drive it, so whenever you see Booth inside the car, except for loading the M4, It's actually me.

And for those of you know don't know, I'm the one on the far right in the first scene.

I'm glad you enjoyed it over all, thanks for your help!

England for the win in 2006!
