War of the Worlds- Extras Needed

Post by Metronome »

I am making a War of the Worlds fan-film. I need a lot of extras.

For my "Heat Ray scene", I need actors to run in front of a green screen before blowing up.

In these shots I need:

1. actor taking a good look at the crater
2. actor walking aroun on screen
3. actor shocked and suprised
4. actor running for his life
5. actor blowing up

Please send in vids of yourselves ASAP.
Take a good look at the scene as it is, and give thought to where you wan't to be blown up.

well....

is that like a final edit of your piece, and your just gna add the other bits later?

'Cos that was fairly...slow.
If there are laser beams and explosions going on everywhere you're probably gonna be legging it, not sauntering around like that, looking mildly amused.

and that church explosions was fairly ridiculous. And why did it have an electric effect as it came back down?

The church explosion was a parody... a long story.
He is legging it...
And the reason I am asking for extras is so that when he falls and gets out of the way and ducks, it won't be because he has to live, but because somebody else got in the way.
I know there are people on this site with green screens. Please be an extra in my film.

But trying to key out the color after we apply the compression will be a nightmare.

I can try.
Already, the whole scene is green screened. Shouldn't be much of a problem.

Where do you live? South Dakota where your nextdoor neighbor lives 2 miles down the road?

Put an ad in the local paper for a few bucks.

Problem there. This film isn't low budget... it's NO budget.
I have what I have, and I use it.
I don't have a company... just me.
Which is why I need your help.

I think the problem is unless you're willing to spend a little more than zero dollars, this is going to be a very difficult special effects movie. I don't know how you could afford to build a color screen... Don't you have any friends? Go door to door with a basket of brownies and politely ask your neighbors for 5 minutes of their time.

Well, I've seen this kind of request before, and it is a nightmare. Suddenly you get a slew of footage that is 24p, 60i, 30p, lit completely different, dark, light, too blue, too green, and its just impossible to coordinate effectively. Where if you can do it yourself, everything would be consistent.

Don't mean to add to the criticizm here, but ALove's right...you gotta be consistent because

a) Nobody is going to film it the way you envision it

and

b) Everyone's filming style is different so when you put it all together it will be no more than a collage of extras contemplating where they want to be when they're blown up

Trust yourself to do it right
Good Luck

'If you can't do it, write it out'.

Thats one of the best pieces of advice/wisdom that can be given about zero/microbudget film-making.

If there is no budget, there can be no huge effects, large crews etc. Re-write this part or clone yourself doing it. Be resourceful and do it yourself, you'll lean a lot more.
