Post Production Problems (also alliteration)

Post by Holdios »

With my films, I've always just kind of captured, and started editing, placing special effects where I need them and what not, but that's all.

In the past few months though, I've aquired Premiere 2.0, and also Avid Xpress Pro (which is proving difficult for me to figure out, but I'm sure will be worth it in the end). Both are completely legal, just for the record.

I'd like to learn how to do color correction and what not to make my footage look better. However, I genuinely don't understand either programs manuals and help section on this. Could someone possibly just explain to me, step by step, what I can do to make my film look better, when and how I should do it and what not? Thanks a lot.

Are you asking about how to work the controls in the program, or just what would generally look good? For me: with color correction: I find it best to just play around with some stock footage. Then I have an idea when I get a video on there.

My favorite thing to do is turn up the contrast and then desaturate it.

Yeh. I add diffusion, desaturation, then increase the gamma a wee bit. Then tint the video to give it a warm or cold feel with magic bullet. Sometimes i duplicate the layer, desaturate, blure and turn down the opacity to give the film a nice subtle glow. Then maybe add depth of field with ae.

There is the 'fast color corrector' in Premiere Pro 2.0. If you want to play around with the saturation in Premiere Pro 1.5, you should use 'HLS'. The 'fast color corrector' in Premiere Pro 2.0 is great, it works well and easily.

Yeah i kinda was against it, but only when all ur trying to do is make the color all pretty, its a complete waste.
Fast Color Correction does the exact same thing, only its faster. And u do have ur choice of what happens, and there is control over what u do its not just, color, KABOOM! Like the RGB color corrector.
And serioiusly, i dont like u.
