I'm probably going to get a HD Camera this summer (with a summer job) and was wondering if there's a way to downconvert it, while editing, and then upconvert it to its full res. My Mac probably can't handle editing HD, as it is 2 generations behind what is on the market today. And to Mac users, does FCE.HD offer me the ability to degrade the quality while editing and then render/export as full resolution?
And to avoid making another post, can anyone recomend an HD camera, or a "DVD quality" camcorder that shoots in 16:9? Would getting a HDD camera be worth it, or would HDV/DV be the way to go?

Hey,
I use FCE HD, but without HD video. I'm pretty sure you can degrade the video quality to a "Preview" quality that edits a lot faster, and doesn't need as much rendering.

I think I've done that before. I'm test-editing an HD movie trailer to see if my computer can handle it.
