Collaboration
What i don't see here is enough of that^^, I mean maybe we are all just pricks, but we got some darn good 3d compositors, some AE prof. why dont we start a process, weere we can contact them and through the internet send out rought cut to the 3d guy, have him finish and send it back, as he does that send more footage to the greenscreen guy, and walah..
i know, sending huge files, cause you don't want to compress anything, and long download times, but wouldn't it be worth it?
Like the line tree:
Film-Zac Crosby -to- FX- Yahdeedah
-to- GreenScrn- Doopedo
-to- 3d guy- Weesnaw
then they all send it back to Zac Crosby (me) and ill make sure it all fits, maybe have a vid. conference or two
But in my insecure mind, it work, if everyone had a serious face to it, not kids going (oh yeah well ill have it done in two weeks) if it is just greenscreening
And to bring up the point "you can do it yourself" YES! you can! but wouldn't it be nicer to have someone else take it off your hands? So instead of you editing, your stuck rendering this huge project 3d anim. when you could have sent it to Whobunrator and he could be rendering it on his, cause he has nothing better to do....
right? your opinions

RE: Collaboration
That could work, but what about those who want to help but don't have fast enough internet?
Are there even sites where you can upload and download 400MB files regularly?
Are there even those out there willing to spend weeks of their time for others (just being realistic here)
I'm willing to put forth the effort, but many others out there have projects they're working on, that's why they use this forum.

I agree. I think we should do something like this.

RE: Collaboration
Maybe I could setup a service on my domain, which would have a list of current "projects" running then you click on it, type in a password or whatever and access a file database connected to it + a messageboard so that particpants know what to do.

Re: RE: Collaboration
That would be awesome. Cause so manyu people on here (not to be creepy or what-not) are really good at 3d or 2d Animation. Like i would want someone to site and animated leaves to simulate a fall day, but then reverse it and have no leaves... but who would do that just for a person, but if we had this, maybe it would help jumpstart you career, we could get anyone in this to help....Jperson wrote:Maybe I could setup a service on my domain, which would have a list of current "projects" running then you click on it, type in a password or whatever and access a file database connected to it + a messageboard so that particpants know what to do.

I think we could start working on ideas of a project and start collabrating stuff.

RE: Re: RE: Collaboration
Yeah. I wouldn't be able to host the actual files though, it would be a little two large... But we could use things like email to send the files around or better still just upload them to different places around the net... That's the only hard bit, the rest is relatively simple to organise. Infact the service could basically use a forum model, with each thread being a project... I'll have to work on the technicalities.

RE: Re: RE: Collaboration
Right that sounds very good. Except I'm quite bogged down with stuff at the moment, so I won't be able to do it immeaditely, but I"m definetly up for giving it a go... I'll add it to my growing list!
edit: Also how about a working title for the project? some stupid corporate thing such as collabro (only joking). It's also going to required quite a lot of hand management on my part at first, so we'll have to try and keep it just to matthawkins to start with. On a test period.

I think we should work on a project and then decided who is going to do what. You can even do acting if the characters never meet up.

RE: Re: RE: Collaboration
Does anyone have a script that involves these types of shots and effects?

RE: Re: RE: Collaboration
The point of this is, really though, to provide a place which people can use to share their "in editing" pieces around and get help from others. Not just one project. I also am a strong believer that eveything put in the "Members' Films" section should be put in one place, so there is one massive source for all the films on MattHawkins, which cuts aways posts connected to them to make it easier to look at, find and search.

RE: Re: RE: Collaboration
Yeah, I think this could really come in handy. I've got 10-12 minutes left in my film of solid lightsaber effects, and it's really wearing me down. I do a frame, then do the next, then do the next..........for thousands upon thousands of frames. I could really use some help from those with After Effects, who wouldn't mind masking in the sabers for a minute or so of the film. I'd put your name in the credits, mail you a DVD copy, and put your website on my site's links. This collaboration could really help out a lot of people, and speed up a bunch of films.
