I disagree with Epsilon about people just seeing those movies for gore. There's a lot to those movies, the good ones I mean.
The Evil Dead trilogy is full of brilliant camera work and ingenuity in terms of effects. They're also hilarious!
And the Romero Dead Trilogy is good writing and social commentary with nice gore tossed in for fun. His movies are politically charged. Night of the Living Dead is a comment on how America treats minorities, while Dawn of the Dead is about consumerism in a capitalist society, and Day of the Dead is clearly about Reaganomics and the militant cold war attitudes of 80's America.
These movies are great pieces of cinema not merely exploitation films.

And on the subject of avatars, does anyone know a good remote-hosting site to put avatars on? The site I was using seems to be down.

Well I think there are brains behind and in those movies, most of the time the brains in a zombie movie are on the walls, and the lips of the killers.

It's very true. Romero does a great job making a fantastic and gory zombie film while, at the same time, sharing with us where he stands politically. The Living Dead series is all about the human condition.
"This is when I saw the dark figures moving about in the woods. I should have never tampered with the 'Book Of The Dead.' I now know that whatever it is I have resurrected through this book, is coming for me."
