Melanie C / Radiohead Video's

Post by MarkA87 »

Has anyone seen a video to Melanie C's new song - I don't know what the song's called. - Probably only UK people will have seen it. - It features her frozen in mid-air and she walks around the frozen 'her' - then jumps into the frozen 'her' and time returns to normal. Does anyone know how this would be done? - Also if anyone has seen Radiohead's - There There video - I would like to know how that's done - a man walks around in a very quirky way - I read someone this could've been done by recording in 1/3 time - what does that mean? :)

I would assume that "1/3 time" is where you throw away 2 frames record 1 frame. This would give you a jerky effect. If you filmed someone walking they would start to look very strange.

Ah rite - yes that's probably what it means - thanx. I'm still stuck about how the Melanie C video was done - I'll try and find out the name of the song...

BTW - here's the video to There There - http://capitolrecords.com/radiohead/player/ - Choose your speed then click on video at the bottom - the high bandwidth one is about 10Mbs. :)

The Mel C trick is extremely easy to do.

Basically they film her walking along and jumping and what not... Then they choose a good frame that would look good as a still.

They then cut around her in the still image and super impose it on top of the footage of her moving.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense! I'll have to use diagrams if you're still puzzled :D

Thanx Ornsack I think I get it now - How would they do it so she jumped EXACTLY into the frozen image? Would you be able to show me diagrams? Don't worry if you can't!

Found the vid is called On The Horizon - Video Click Here.

No remember it's done in POST production, meaning it's done after they filmed it.

For example, they have 25 frames of Mel C jumping they'd cut her out of frame 25 and paste her position from frame 25 on top of frames 1 to 24.

If I have time, and feel like posting videos of me jumping around like an arsehole I'll give it a go myself tomorrow :D

Wow it looks pretty sweet! cheers for doing that! Maybe it would be good if a bit of transarency was added to the frozen frame - I'm not sure - but I think they do that in the vid? :D

Do they? I've only seen it once! Personally I think Emma Bunton's video is better for numerous reasons ;)

That effect used in the Mel C video is really quite poorly done. I've just seen it and i thought it sucked a**! They had cut out the water wrongly and I remember seeing the edges of the keyed away color and the camera moved a bit (still on a tripod) but the frozen frame didn't so it looked awkward..

I know it is a quick test but I wonder if your layers are ordered correctly. I think the moving footage should be layered ontop, you disappear behind the still image.

From what I've seen, Mel C always jumps behind the still image. So neh-neh!

Plus it would have meant having to cut out several frames of me moving to give me a composite alphamap, and I was barely arsed to do that last test! :p
