How can you make video look all sh*ty and screwed-up in post

Anybody know of an effective way, on how you can take perfectly good footage, and then make it look screwed-up out-of whack? Example; like in the Trailer for the “Day After Tomorrowâ€

If you are looking for the "Day after Tommorow" effect, try to add a blue/white filter to the video, add lots of grain to simulate static, and maybe add a black screen (at the individual frame level, scattered throughout the footage) to simulate bad reception. Don't know how this would look, because I have never tried it because Vegas 4 already has a specific filter that lets you do this.

Add in lots of noise, static, grain, occasional skipped frames, etc. Play around with all the nifty features that Premiere gives you!

Sheer fabric is good for this type of thing. If you're doing it in post, see if you can superimpose a transparent swatch of fabric over the footage.

Use hair, scratch, static and old movie effects.
Very easily found in Vegas Video. I think AE must have sth. like this.

Ya old static effect, or you could perpusly shoot the good video badly. drop whole seconds of video but leave the audio in, and in other parts drop the audio leaving the video so it looks like the channals are fizzing out.

I would have suggested something like that Sean, but I think that John wanted to do the effects in post, possibly because he's filmed it already!

Copy your video from camera to VHS.
Set up the VCR to play to the TV via Coax (Antena) cable.
Have the cable in loose on the VCR.

Aim the camera at your TV.
Hit record on your camera, play the VHS copy and jiggle (that's the technical term, of course) the coax connector while the video plays back.

That should do it. :)
Have fun.

Use florecent lighting in the original shot

Thanks for the help!

I now have plenty of ideas on how I could do this effect.

2nd Recon; I don't quite understand how florecent lighting would help in the effect I want? How does it help in the effect that I want to create?
