At this point you guys are probley saying,"Oh damnit! What does this little s*** want." You know on the website it describes how to make a camcorder dolly. Has anybody made one yet? If you have, does it work ok? And the question I want an answer for is How much money will it coast?

It looks like this guy built the same dolly and it cost him about $60 total.
Build a camera Dolly by Don Mansfield
Should work great.
PVC "track" (pipe) usually sells for about $1 for an 8ft length in my area.
Have fun.

Check out HomeBuiltStabilizers for lots of different dollies people have made. I'm going to be building a small crane that goes on a dolly, something like this

Nick's link was great. You know in all my years of film making i have never used a dolly .
For one scene i did use a blow up dolly as an APC turret gunner!

Lol!
A cheaper option would be to sit on a skateboard and handhold the camera as someone pushes you (don't put the tripod on the skateboard or it'll be horribly jerky).

Even a small tricycle or such like. Just a smooth wheel action.

Sitting in a shopping trolley could also work. You could 'borrow' one from a supermarket.

Lol well I'll give it a go but I'll blame you if I break any bones
And a shopping trolley would be a good one... Make sure you trust the guy who's pushing you though

I remember seeing on a BBC technology show (namely Tomorrows World) a shopping trolly that could actually go in a straight line. You'd think that after years of them existing they'd do that by now anyway!

The evolution of the shopping trolley has been very slow indeed!

kinda stole my thunder with the shopping trolley idea but the best dolly i've found to date is a wheelchair. very smooth and you can even get away with steering it.
check it out
