external mic questions

ok i want to get a really good external mic for my gl1. i was originally gonna get the dm-50 because i read it was comaptible with the gl1, but i know now it's not. what i liked about the dm-50 was that you could select either shotgun directional or driectional + surrounding. but maybe i should just get a stereo mic. i want to use it for making films, but i like the shotgun direction feature because when i film in noisy areas i can get the audio i want really clear and distinct. so im thinking of the Azden sgm-x. oh and btw my price range is like $150 at most. so what do you suggest?
