Yesterday, I took the time to make a BAR, Thompson, and mp40.
The thompson and mp40 are made from 1.8cm wood, and the BAR is just cardboard
Tell me what you think!

I've tried that! Works very well!UFProductions wrote:I loved that! To make the casings fly up an out though (Instaed of just dropping) is more of a challenge. One method I've discovered is to hold the casing against the gun (Much like in Epsilons tutorial) with two fingers, and squeeze it so it slips up and flys upwards. Really works well, except only one at a time.

Good looking guns Tallman, however your Thompson seems to be missing the end of its' barrel! I'm assuming you meant 1.8 inch, not 1.8 cm thick wood, otherwise you might want to consider laminating two or three pieces of it together to gain some thickness.
And glad to be of help, Tobbger.

The BAR's barrel should be thicker, longer, and doubled. They are huge weapons. The thompson does look a twinge short like UEProductions said. Also, it seems to me as if the stock is bend down a bit much. Overall, not too shabby!

Some notes (if you care, that is!):
- Those tan nylon army tabs came out around the Gulf War era when the desert uniform came out. They average around 20 cents each. I got like 200 of them for $7. Stores that sell them more than 50 cents are ripping you off.
- Your airforce patch is a woman's enlisted senior airman rank, men's are bigger.
- The ranks are staff sergeant, vietnam era and later, ww2 are silver in color. Modern ones have the glue on the back!
- Your BAR is still a bit small, they are huge 22 pound rifles!
- Your German helmet cover looks American! Maybe it's just the angle.
- A large outstand for ww2 soldiers is the huge amounts of junk and ammo pouches they bare! Load em up with packs!

If you figure the final movie will be compressed down to a midget, choppy compressed mpeg, they look authentic!

True but why think for the comprestion, do you ever watch your movie in WMV format, God knows I don't. I try to make everything look good no mater the format, but since you did make them yourself, the fact that they look a bit cheep is exspected.Epsilon wrote:If you figure the final movie will be compressed down to a midget, choppy compressed mpeg, they look authentic!

Try rounding out the corners and carving in some gadgets and misc. parts into the wood.

Garands are not hard to come by we have four or five at my house, the only problme is that they are expensive, usualy around $400.UFProductions wrote:Lucky a***, where did you get the Garand? I do research on all my prop guns before making them. I draw out a template on poster board scaled up fom a picture to the known dimensions of the gun.

Isn't it a good thing, though as many guns as we have, and I could make a WWII flick from what is in my house, I don't think I would ever be alowed to use them for more then background, and that is with begging, or them not knowing (the guns in the closet in Retribution) but oh well.SgtPadrino wrote:I'm just lucky to come from a famlly full of people who can truly appreciate firearms.

Okay, heres a pic of my newly finished british commando uniform
It includes
Britich webbelt
British shoulder bag
British Holster and pistol
Brown shirt
Brown pants
British commando beret
British ammo pouch
Tell me what you think...................
P.S. In our movie, the commando is met after losing his primary weapon, so thats why I don't have a sten gun or Lee-enfield
