Blow up a car?

Post by slimdog55 »

Instead of blowing up your dad's car, can you just record a car then with special effect just blow it up and make it destroyed?

Blow up a car?

Post by slimdog55 »

Hey, did you work on getting the blow up a car guide yet? Other than blowing up a car, do you think you can put up how to blow up a building or house or factory? Thanks in advance.

Use a mini car

Post by thewarmovie »

You can get an old model or hot wheels car, Make a simple set (with roads, grass, buildings ect.) get some Fire Crackers, Place them in the model car. Now go to a hobby store or any store that carries model rockets, now buy an electronic igniter and igniters. Then put the igniter in the fire cracker, attach the electronic igniter, set up your camera on a tripod pretty far away and zoom up. When you press record on your camera have a friend turn on the igniter and let it blow. :D

This is even used in pro films.

Sorry I've been busy at Uni and going out at night, so it's been hard for me to do it. In fact I was so busy today I managed one post on this forum before being dragged away!

But yeah blowing up a decent sized model can work wonders. Make sure it's no smaller than your average remote controlled car though, make sure the background doesn't give anything away (i.e. don't film it in front of a wall or the large bricks would give it away) and try and film it on interlaced video or film, so that you can slow it down smoothly to give the debry a look of weight about them (as apposed to having a quick flash and having bits of car fly everywhere in less than a second).

Yeah the model option is an excellent one dear Ornasck. I did that once with a tank for UDDS ARMAGEDDON

I am in the process of blowing up a building ... using FX, obviously.

At some point I'll do a tutorial. Basically I shot some footage of an office building. Used premiere and 3D Studio max I blew out the windows, the roof and a chunk of structure. Added a few fiery explosions and sound FXs.

This was inspired by a clip Ornsack sent of a hotel explosion. In fact all my 3D Studio max stuff has been inspired by Ornsack!!!

In fact the explosion I used was the one Ornsack sent me :)

I'll add the explosion to my special effects section as it should be useful to all you pyrotechnics people out there.

 Oh look at me, I'm so inpirational and helpful... :P

But seriously, I'd love to see what you've done on it Matt! I'm obsessed with creating realistic building explosions at the moment (well, about as realistic as you can get in CGI, it's not exactly the same as blowing up a proper building is it?).

And Matt, you blowing up the Colston Tower again like in your Hollow Point promo picture? What do you have against that building??? :D

And if anyone else wants the explosion AVI file then just ask and I'll Email it to ya!
