After Effects?

Hey, I just go Adobe After Effects 6.5, but I haven't the faintest clue as to what I am doing. I have no idea where to start. Are their any sites designed for dumbies like me that can help me out with getting started? Also an effect I wanted to try is with smoke. I wanted to make smoke billow out of a persons mouth from a gun shot blow. I saw a tutorial on the 'smoke effect'@ http://www.creativecow.net/articles/ham ... index.html
but i don't know how to find particle playground. I don't know how to start this stuff up. I need to learn the basics! Can anyone help?
