How to make explosions?

Hallo there people... im makin a film which will need plenty of explosions! I dont want to use adobe premiere, mainly because i dont have it. So i will need some other way of creating explosions without digital effects. Can anyone help with some ideas? iv tried party popers, by puttin them under some soil and exploding them.. that looks quite good but there is no flash! iv also taken apart some fireworks and used the powder from them to create explosions too... so i need new ideas.

after researching this concept throughout many search engines i have found loads of good sites, ask if you would like them. but you ca use mousetraps under ground in small boxes with debris on, this seems to work well also, i have mny other ideas if you would like them.

I kinda like the idea of mail ordering gunpowder and igniting it. Yes... you heard right... there actually is a mail order gunpowder company in the US... and we wonder why there are terrorist problems...

Its not the point that you can buy gun powder. The point is that there are a small amount of fools who want to abuse the freedom you have to buy it.

If it wasn't for these idiots and terrorists, you would still be able to buy anything you wanted. Just think how cool it would be for us filmmakers with that amount of choice instead of having to use lame airsoft weapons and such.

Explosive material cannot be sent through the post either, it requires hazmat trasportation! haha

We just had the local gun shop guy make us blanks for a 45, works like a champ.
