Matrix Bullet Streaks
Well i was just messing around in after effects. now everyone says you need 3ds max for these bullet streaks but i created something kinda similar in after effects. it does not look exactly like it but good enough for people who do not have 3ds max.
you can see my test clip below.

Tell me what you think please.

Looks pretty good, however, some kind of muzzle flash or explosion would enhance the shot considerably.
further problems: the hand is moving far quicker than the bullet - speed the bullet up or slow the hand down.
the bullet is also too big.
this is being critical - the streak effect works ok though

Well when I go to do the effect for my film, I'm going to put on a movie that uses my exact gun. Go to a shot of it firing off. And then play it in slow motion a couple times to get the idea. Then I'll try to mimic the look. Then play them both back to back to see if they look the same. Lately I have been watching alot of movies with Mp5's to see how they look.
What would have been neat looking would have been the shell ejecting out the side, and then bouncing off the camera lense. All in slow motion while that matrix thing was going. But then again, this would have been tricky. You'd probably have to go buy a shell and have it actually bounce of the camera. (like you tossing it at the camera.) Then have to blend it together with cg shell from the far away. So that you see this cg shell coming out of gun and towards camera and as it comes near the camera it actaully is replaced with the real one that bounces off the camera. And you know what, dang it, I'll use that effect myself!
idk...that would seem really cheesy to me... Anyways, carnage, could you tell me how you did that effect. i just have these bullet addins I use and their really bad!crb wrote:What would have been neat looking would have been the shell ejecting out the side, and then bouncing off the camera lense.

While you were on the subject of making it realistic, i was wondering. If you shot a bullet in slow motion, it would hit the target before any movement of the hand is realy noticable. The slide would probably not be all the way back because it does not have the same force of the bullet. In the matrix, they fire there bullets one after the other in slow motion. This doesn't make sense because the gun would not be ready to fire at that rate. Also, their trigger fingers must be moving back and forth at super speed. Ya i know its a cool effect and its from the matrix, but it just had me thinkin. It looked realy good.

umm...i'll put a tutorial up in a day or two. i also kinda invented a different way of doing muzzle flashes for this. at least i came up with the idea by myself i dont know if anyone else has used the same technique before, but this muzzle flash needs some adjustments etc. i'll have both tutorials up in a few days. but the muzzle flash tutorial requires after effects and cannot be done in premiere.
as long as it is done in after effects I'm good with it cause I am getting that as one of my program. Which after effects were you using. 1.5? These post game me a good idea for a extra shot to stick in my film with the camera aimed up at a soldier firing an mp5 and the shells falling down on top of the camera. Interesting.
