Actually close to the end of the war Hitler called all able males ages 14-60. With Americans, maybe 16 and 17 year olds lied about their ages to join the army, not that that's an excuse for my 15 year old Captain in the film. :D And about the windshield, it's a little hard to find a windshield to fit over my mic, seeing as it's imbedded into my camera.

Yeah, some of Hitler's forces were extremely young. There was an episode in Band of Brothers where the one character panics when he sees he shot a 14 or 15 year old who tried to shoot him first. And the youngest I've ever heard of for the US side joining the Army during WWII was in fact 16, and younger than that and it would be obvious they weren't of age.

As far as a windscreen for your camera, if you don't want to use an external mic you can acheive a similar effect by taping a thin piece of foam to the mic on your camera, and securing it by the sides with small pieces of tape.

I think having the actors act unexperienced added to the realism, if anyone remembers there was a draft going on and it just shows how fast they were sending out these recruits and how little training they got before sending them out.

If I had the oppurtunity to use an external mic, trust me I would have. But my camera doesn't have a port. Luckily two of the three cameras I will be using for PMW will have external mics. Thanks again for all the feeback.
