Not a lot; just one: Collateral. Everything that took place outdoors was shot on HD. Around 85% of it was on HD I read somewhere.Gyro wrote:It wasn't MiniDV, but I know alot of Michael Mann's films were shot on video.
No, it was shot on a VX2000 and a PD150.NPMAX wrote:Open water was shot with a GL@, it gives me hope I have one.

Open Water was shot on a GL2 and an XL1S. One of them was for the under water footage, I think.

Was Jackass shot with film or DV? As much of a stupid homevideo as it looked, it had a lot of effort put into it. Not to mention a huge camera crew credited!

The movie or the tv series? Because on the tv series you can occasionally see a guy holding a GL-2

Personal Velocity won a bunch of awards on the festival circut and made it to theaters internationally and was shot with a PD150. Hope this helps.

Nice list, I've always been interested in the Sony DSR-PD150, looks like a popular little bugger. Nothing for the XL2 though.

Re: RE: Re: RE: FILMS shot on miniDV? can you think of any?
No! It was shot on a VX2000 and a PD150, like I said. Here's your evidence:Clarence wrote:Open Water was shot on a GL2 and an XL1S. One of them was for the under water footage, I think.
http://www.uemedia.net/CPC/cinematograp ... 0601.shtml
"Our choices were between the Sony VX2000 and the Canon XLI. There was a sharper, crisper, more stark image from Sony and a more creamy, softer look from the Canon XL1. The real tie-breaker was the underwater housing. Because of the XL1's shape in the underwater housing, it would have been a really bulky piece of equipment. Sony was going to work better, so I went with the VX2000," he says.
Erm... yeah...
now the question is which camcorda is best?
Ive read a lot on XL1 but dont know much about PD150...DSR....
I take it there all 3CCD.
PS undead coming out looks good
El Mariachi: 10 Years Later (2003) (V) is this on one of his dvds cos i would like to see it.

Sony DSR-PD150 Camcorder Review
by Chuck Littman
Published on February 12, 2004
First User's Report on PD150 PD150 Heads up thumbnail: It has Copyright Protection ICON with password! Manual Iris Dial, Manual Shutter Speed, Manual Gain Control AE Shift Button (No separate colors) Time Code Preset H/M/S/F User bit preset Spotlight Button Prevents saturation of spotlighted object One-push reduces brightness in picture One-push increases exposure
The PD-150 offers SWITCHABLE mini-DV and MINI-DVCam recording, dual XLR audio inputs with a mono short shotgun microphone (actually a plastic composite version of ECM-670), a very impressive (high resolution) black and white viewfinder (apparently 500tvl), a 30fps progressive scan (recordable to tape), a settable time code (i.e. tape 2, hour 2, etc), a sharpness and color saturation level, and a setting in menu for 0 or 7.5 ire Black level! The 58mm (thread) aspheric lens was pretty impressive, and much more substantial than VX-1000's. The manual audio levels include a true L-R separation with dB metering. It has a 58mm lens, two Zebra settings of 70% & 100%, two ND settings, and has spotlight mode with manual everything! Finally, there are also color audio levels in both viewers...
I found the low light capability of the PD150 to be absolutely amazing! I thought I was viewing live footage wide open when I was actually at f 5.6 !!! It was pretty great, especially when compared to the 1000 and TRV900! The matte black finished camera was much chunkier in front than in the pictures I've seen of VX-2000, especially with the broadcast style microphone off the side and dual XLR's (with myriad of switches) under the hot shoe mount contoured handle. All this, for about $500 more than the VX-2000, definitely worthy of consideration by the pro-sumer, wedding videographer, and special event “Discovery Channelâ€

Well i have used both, quality wise i cannot tell a difference. DV cams have larger tapes than mini dv but that is why they are mini. DV tapes are also capable of capturing 2 hours as opposed to about an hour to an hour and a half with mini dv. mini dv may be able to do 2 hours but i have not seen it.
yeah they where but hi-def camcordas cost 30k used.slimdog55 wrote:Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Sin City, and I think all of the Spy Kids movies were shot on HD.

I was thinking of ither buying a PD150 or renting a HD camcorda the one in once upon a time, but hiring it per 4 days costs $1,200!Carnage7p wrote:actually the new HD Sony is only around $5,000 brand new. i've seen it in action and let me tell, it is amazing. crystal clear to every pixel.nigel101 wrote:yeah they where but hi-def camcordas cost 30k used.slimdog55 wrote:Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Sin City, and I think all of the Spy Kids movies were shot on HD.

Here's the low-down on the Sony HDV cams:
"Pro" Version:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/control ... 486&is=REG
"Consumer" version:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/control ... 515&is=REG
Comparisons:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/HV ... -Table.htm
It uses MPEG2 encoding to fit it on a normal MiniDV tape. Hence the term HDV, not just HD. Not sure how well the MPEG2 works, but good luck.

Erm... yeah...
There is absolutely no difference in quality, and DVCam can be shot on miniDV tapes as well as full size DV tapes- recording time is 2/3 of the miniDV recording time since DVCam has a higher tape speed, both are 25 Mbps 4:1:1 sampling. The two advantages to DVCam are locked audio track and less susceptibility to dropouts since the same amount of data is spread over a longer distance on the tape. When you get into higher end Pro DVCams then there are other advantages unrelated to the recording format which make a better quality image - Larger CCDs and immensely better lensesCarnage7p wrote:Well i have used both, quality wise i cannot tell a difference.
