Blue Screen of Death should die!
My computer keeps running into a blue screen whenever I start Windows (XP). Don't know why, and don't know how to stop it. I've been looking throughout the web looking for answers but I have found none (that are useful or that I understand).
So far it's does this. I start up and asks how I want to start (Safe Mode, Normal, etc), any one I push it goes to the blue page; or goes to the WinXP load screen and before the little bar has the light pass through it goes to the blue screen. I tried starting with command prompt but still does the same thing. The blue screen is not that populated with things it's very short.
It looks very similar to this.

But the values it gives me are
Stop: 0X00000024 (0X00190203, 0X8200F868, 0XC000012, 0X00000000)
Any help would be great: please keep smart a** "that's why Mac (or Lineux)are better" and wipe out your harddrive answers out... please.
Thanks again.

Well it says something is wrong with your boot device. I am assuming that you have your important data not on C: so all you have to dfo is reinstall Windows fesh and clean

To tell you the truth I don't remember. But I do believe all my stuff is on C. Would reinstalling Windows erase it all?I am assuming that you have your important data not on C: so all you have to dfo is reinstall Windows fesh and clean
My friend had one of those errors before, but he turned out to be an idiot so I didn't see if he resolved it... Anyway, I did a quick search and got these:

"Note that not all "STOP 0x00000024" error messages are caused by the problem described in this article. Also, the parameters may vary depending on the system configuration."
It's kind of a short article though...
Have you tried tech support (comp. manufacturer or windows) or other, more computer-based help forums? [/url]

I've had problems on both Mac and Linux before, so Windows isn't unique in that fashion...
If you reinstall Windows without erasing the entire hard drive, much (if not all) of your saved work should be mostly untouched. We've done it before. However, if this is the work of a virus, consider everything lost and long gone.
First, make sure it's the operating system that won't boot, as opposed to the motherboard having trouble.
If all fails and you are forced to rebuild Windows, stick the drive (as a slave) into another working computer and extract all the files you wish to save.

Honestly Jperson, I'm a Mac user too but if you don't want to start an argument then don't say anything that he specifically asks you not to. Wow.Any help would be great: please keep smart a** "that's why Mac (or Lineux)are better" and wipe out your harddrive answers out... please.

How would I be able to tell the difference?First, make sure it's the operating system that won't boot, as opposed to the motherboard having trouble.
My C: drive is the only harddrive I have that I can save things to.You should also get into the BIG habit of saving nothing to C:
Most helpful post yet.I don't want to get this forum closed or start an argument or anything but this is why you should have Mac. But yeah I would re-install the system. Also to Windows users, why is your hard disk called C???!!???

Because back in the day when computers still came with floppy disk drives, "A:" was assigned to the primary drive, and "B:" was assigned to the seconday boot drive. The tradition of naming the primary HDD "C:" has just continued.
I would definately suggest jamming your toasted HD into another PC or a enclosure as a slave to back up, then do a reformat/reinstall there barnes.

I still have some games that require a 5 1/4" floppy drive.
Just be cautious if it was a virus that caused the problem, before plugging it into another computer. The last thing you want is a second computer to bite the dust!

You should try downloading a knoppix cd from www.knoppix.org. This is a trimmed down version of linux that doesn't require to be installed on anything, it simply runs from your cd drive. It comes with a lot of diagnostic tools, it allows you to grab data in windows directories, and its free! Try giving it a try.
