"Night is Day" - A new superhero web series!

Post by sillyweefilms »

Hey all,

I hope you don't mind me pointing your attention to the website for "Night is Day".

"Night is Day" is a low budget superhero web series shot and based in Glasgow. Inspired by the likes of Spider-Man, Doctor Who, Angel etc, it follows the adventures of Jason Mackenzie, a Glaswegian superhero with the power of foresight and electricity.

The first 3 episodes (out of 6) are available to watch at www.nightisday.com

Here's an uber trailer we edited -

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wgSCWgO9-fo"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wgSCWgO9-fo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Enjoy!

Looks good, is it going anywhere like TV possibly and what sort of (if any!) budget did you have? I'm interested. I don't feel that the website quite matches what I've seen in the trailer, for example it doesn't fit onto smaller screens/smaller resoloution screens. But websites is just an area that I'm really interested in...:D Keep up the good work!

Hello! :)
I hope you'll at least check out the first episode! If you look at the website there's a resolution detail at the bottom.
We shot episode 1 for like £7 lol. New crew, new story, new cast etc so it was all a bit hectic, but it all pulled together as of episode 2. We've now shot all 6 episodes of the series and we've spent just over £1,000 on it.
Cheers :)

Nice, it looks good, may I ask what the £1000 went on? Also I didn't see the resoloution thing, let me just check it out...Ah, that's quite a large resoloution to aim at! Most people are well behind that. Who designed the website, was it you?

It went on food, travelling expenses, the occasional locations, tapes, props, etc.

The resolution is the 2nd smallest you can get and most websites are set that way :) It was my fiancé who designed the website :)

As to ask your earlier question, episode 1 was actually on Propeller TV last night and they're going to show all the episodes at some point.

Cheers

Nice. And out of interest, what sort of equipment did you use and how many cameras?

Looks quite good actually! Impressed!

The music is faaaaarrr too over the top in that trailer though! The shot where you zoom out of a bald mans head to that music had me in stitches.

Will make a slow start on the episodes anyway :)

I'm glad you liked it :)

We were a bit short on footage at the time but we've completed episode 6 and we'll be making up 3 new trailers to promote the series.

I hope you enjoy episode 1 - obviously I'll say this but episode 2 is my favourite episode. Check out the review at -

Thanks :D

Oh and I love your icon! :)

As an amateur production that was entertaining.

The Good:

The acting.
The script.
Good characters that will hopefully develop well.
You had some nice shots in there. Especially your establishing shots.
Nice music.

The Bad:

Lighting between shots. You are trying to light things enough to see clearly (depending on what you're trying to create) and make it seem like the lights are coming from static sources. But the shadows moved about between shots, especially in the house scenes when he moved to the door.

Overall, a nice introduction. I will try and catch them on Propeller TV.

We have had one film on Propeller so far and have another two going through their lengthy process for airing.

Hi!
I'm glad you liked the first episode.

I appreciate your comments :)

The first episode is pretty much just your typical pilot episode (ala "buffy") where it was a brand new thing for us to do, we had no money and a new crew and a new cast to work with. We shot it over 2 days and did our best. After episode 1 we changed things around.

If you do watch the free 6 minute preview of episode 2 you'll hopefully see the improvements :)

We've got a few reviews for episodes 1-3 on the website so feel free to check them out .

It is an extremely lengthy process to get your stuff shown on Propeller but it's great to get your work on the telly!
