D'oh factor

Post by chrisgreen »

As the director/producer my first movie, i'm trying to do things right. I'm roping in crew and various different people to act. But the problem is you really got to do things right in front of your cast and crew so you don't make your self look like a complete prat.

I was showing the new star of our film things that he'd have to be doing in it, like jumping up walls etc, but when showing him jumpin up a wall, i landed on the wall on one foot, slipped off, slammed my shin in the wall, flipped over the wall and hit the conrete hard on the other side. I came away with a huge chunk of skin being taken out of my leg, bruses all over the other leg and various other scratches. I realised that if i get it wrong, then it really isn't the best way to tell your actors how to do it. But it still was really funny, and now a got a cool "filming injury".

Post your do's and "d'oh's" about filming, but stunts in particular. I know this is kinda like the stunts gone bad thread, but that is getting crowded.

there is no such thing as a thread being too crowded. take a look at my "longest thread ever in existence" aka "what is the most famous movie line." it has about 360 replies and that's not too crowded.

Tim Burton during the filming of "Planet of the Apes" remake decided to show the actors in monkey suits how to roll down a hill. He broke several ribs in the process :D

Ok. Now you get paid a quarter per film. Hey, it's more than you used to make!

by the way, I'm just kidding, I don't have that kind of money lol

Well I had a friend get stabed during a fight, not bad in the arm, clean cut, I've seen punches delivred to hard, and people hurt their hands whilst filighting with swords, and the bee attack but that wasn't our fault. I try and avoid the d'oh moments.

My friend had to run down a hill in his backyard for a few shots. On one of the takes, his foot got caught on a wire just under the leaves. Needless to say, he fell. His first moment of contact with the ground was about 3/4 down the hill... the wire was near the top. It was damn funny and he didn't even really get all that hurt.

Another incident ocurred without the camera rolling. I jumped up on a picnic table, and on the way up, dragged my leg on the edge. I looked down, and to my amazment, there was no bruise or broken skin. So I try to walk it off. I come back, look down, and half my leg is black and blue! Then about ten inutes later, the bruise was gone, and I had a huge gash on my leg. It's still there, and this was over a month ago!

Another happened in my early days of filming. My friend jumped up on my coffee table to do a dance. He was dressed in black, had a cape and tophat, and a fake mustache. This was back in my analog days, so we were playing music at the time of recording. Anyway, he does one last jump, lands, and brings his foot back. His foot missed the table and he fell down. All as the music ended. It was perfect!!! HILARIOUS!!!

There are plenty more, I'll just have to think...
Erm... yeah...

the only incedents i remember were...um..
oh yeah, about 4 years ago in my improv days of filming, someone was lying on the bed next to the camera and they put thier foot out...i pushed it away and they fell off the bed. they actuallly wanted to do it again!
the other incedent was a month ago when we were filming a few seconds of fottage of Lon swinging a plastic pole aroind so i could try and add a lightsaber effect on top of it. he really got into the movement, and it looked really cool, before he whacked the pole into his elbow. just a small bruise tho. im expecting a few d'ohs in the production of our next film, seen as we have quite a few running and fighting scenes. the bit thats most likely to go wrong is a scene where we have our actor running down a corridor in his house while crouching, a lá The Matrix. bad thing is he has to look to the right while running :D
