Just curious....Video card...

Post by Truggy »

Ok, i was sitting here, helping bear update his video card, heres the thing im wondering. Bear and I just bought a game called Joint operations, first of all his was lagging massivly. but when he played bfv smoother than grass. He had updated his drivers, then JO ran perfect for him. I was just wondering....what exactly do drivers do for his card? i dont believe he had updated even once on his driver card. Thanx

new drivers mostly just add compatability and functionality with new instructions. If you've got a new directX, and old drivers, the directx-driven game will try all kinds of commands and instructions, which older drivers don't understand. Directx and the drivers will then try to find another solution (maybe with older instructions), which takes time and the older instructions and commands mostly are (considerably) slower. That's what makes updating your drivers at least every half year worth while. But I guess that's just a minor part of driver updates. Most updates are simply massive bugfixes (like winamp updates :D). But they do help, don't forget.
