3ds MAx: Creating Smoke?

Post by Meade87 »

Hey, I have been looking for tutorials for something I want to do in 3ds max. However, I have been unlucky. I keep finding things like Billowing smoke from chimneys and stuff. I want to make realistic looking smoke. Like smoke from a cigarette that I can put into a movie. And Before you say I know I could prob have someone smoke a cigarette and blow it out and that would be easier right? Wrong, the person in this movie is supposed to of had shot himself from the mouth threw the brain. So the smoke is from the gun thats comming out of his mouth. So thus he is supposed to be dead, and blowing out smoke would be revealing. So I want to creat it digitally so can anyone help? Tell me how to make this realistic looking smoke? or even link me tutorial that can tell me? thanx.

For what you're talking about, 3DS may not offer any advantage over just using After Effects or something of the sort.

If you do use 3DS, though, you'll want to make a particle system with some. Look in the tutorials and there should be a tutorial for cigarette smoke. There's also tuts on stuff like this at places like 3D Cafe.
