Just can't burn a DVD!

Why isn't it working?

I've got a dual-layer 8X DVD+/- R/RW, connected as a secondary master (With no slave) on an AMD XP3200 system with 1GB DDR 400 RAM, and a 160GB HDD.

Using Nero or any other utility, I get a reset error.

Apparently it's recommended that I change my writer's firmware, which I didn't have success with, so I've emailed the manufacturer's tech support to ask for help with that.

But firmware aside, surely it should be writing?

I can't write data, or video (And is it supposed to take a couple of hours to convert the video files before burning? Gosh!).

Any suggestions anyone?

Never mind, your flood of responses helped me figure it out on my own - it was the firmware after all.
