Making loads of people appear

Post by cwf »

How do you film the effect where you make loads of people instead of one?

For example. Like the effects used in The Forest. Say if i filmed a shot in the woods and then had one person run onto screen. and then the same actor comes out from another bush, and then the same actor comes from another bush and they are all on screen togther?

Is it something to do with masking? and if so how do you do it? I have after effects and premiere pro. Please can someone help.

Thanks,

CWF

Go to a cheap thrift shop and buy a Bill Clinton masks. Have a bunch of actors wear the masks. There! :)

When we made The Forest, we used AfterEffects and a combination of masking and vector painting to get all the Simons on screen at the same time.

It's where you paint onto your footage using vectors, oddly enough. It's quite well implemented in After Effects, we paintbrushed our Simons frame-by-frame a pure white, then changed the composite mode of the vector painting to matte, and bingo, you've got a Simon without a background.
