Proffesional Cameras

Post by Radiate »

Does anyone know how much a real film camera, a dolly, and a crane would cost? I found a store by my house that sells that stuff but I havent looked around yet.[/u]

For a good 16mm film camera off ebay about $10,000

You'd be better off with HD

In terms of cranes and dollies you'd be much better off building your own, they are really expensive but can be built cheaply.

I bought a good 16mm (not super 16 though) camera off eBay and it cost me £350...
Ooh, french maid. Didn't expect me home from the whipped cream store so soon did you? And who's your lady friend?

check out promax.com on a cobra crane. They attach to a tripod. They may also have something on a dolly. I found a dolly with track that you through in your back pack for $600.00 but I forget what site.
Cameras, check out the canon XL1, Panasonic DVX100 and the canon XL2.

i say if you have enough for the XL2 then you might as well make the upgrade to HD. I got to test out the new HD Sony, and let me tell you WOW! I have seen both Canon and Sony in action and the new HD Sony is better as far as image quality goes. It even has pretty good low light capabilites. my suggestion is go HD rather than film. you will save a ton of money from not buying film and the industry is headed more towards HD anyways. The new star wars movies were shot on HD.

Frankly, any camera is "professional" if you can make money using it...

I liked my DVX100, but see i knew how to use the mindv look to my advantage. My film look was enhanced by not making it look like film stock. If you go to shoot on miniDV, make sure that you have a good reason, not just for money sake.

Sometimes you haven't got a choice. Especially when there's NO budget. I think you can do nice movies with DV cameras, esp. with a good 3 chip camera. In the end it's the story that makes the movie. That and the talent of the people who are creating it. If the audience forgets the tech details then it may be ok to use any format.
