what you use for sound? xl1

Post by nigel101 »

hi

I hear you should have mixer, dats, booms and sennheisers all of them, but as the budgets low, how could you get around buying loads of equipment.

Say its for a XL1, id need a ADR adapter first? right? so i can plug in a ADR connector cable.

Could i just not plug a sennheiser right in to it.?
also becase its digital and not film do i really need a dat recorder?

thanks all the best www.ngmfilms.com

It has an XLR input, so you do not really need any adapters from a sennheiser.

I use an XL1, with either the onboard mic or a sennheiser with standard mic plug.

If I'm doing a worthwhile shoot, we have a separate audio system, recorded onto a Roland Hard Drive recorder and possibly a laptop as well, video synced to the camcorder.

How's that laptop deal work out Epsilon? I was thinking of doing that for my next movie.

That's the method my team uses. It works quite well (most of the time). Plus, it's the ultimate cheap yet high quality recording system, provided you already own a laptop.

Seeing as my camera doesn't even have a mic input I redub most of the audio afterwards!

How does working with mixers on set work? Do you have a separate device recording audio like an MD player or something like that or does a mixer take lots of different mic inputs and output it into the camera?

We capture audio on the computer with Adobe Audition. Make sure the laptop doesn't have a lot of system noise. Some PCs have a little buzz...
