You don't see any gross male parts in the movie. Maybe some boobs, but it ain't That bad. They did have to be within an "R" rating afer all the swearing. I think you would appreciate the film more than me.

There's definitely some credible doubt as to how realistic Jarhead truly is, considering that Swofford openly hates the Corps with a passion, and Sam Mendes is the single most anti-military director in Hollywood...
What about Humvees? Five-tons? I know there's a SoCal airsoft group that has a garage full of working, modern military vehicles, but I guess that's kind of a long haul for you guys

Not having paid much attention to American gear in Iraq I don't know if this is an applicable sugestion, but Canadians in Afghanistan have adopted parts of native dress into their regualr gear, most notably scarves and face coverings for use in sandstorms. If the indigenous people have been wearing something for centuries it must be for a good reason, and soldiers commonly see that.

and is also good for keeping the warm in on those cold winter nights... It works on stag at 3am in England in -7 so it will work in the desert. I was checking the news footage of US troops in Iraq, they dont seem to accesorise much, is this just for the official photos or is it regulations?

I don't think most troops wear a lot of non-uniform items, although I have seen one photo of a soldier wearing a WW2 Tanker jacket! Usually our soldiers are issued everything they need. They still get personal items from people back at the home front.

It is only partially the costumes that make the scene... I'd say you are pretty much set on a personal level. Worry now about getting location props. Ammo crates, tentage, random garbage from warehouses, etc to dress up the area. Also invest in some good stage makeup and lights.Gyro wrote:Let's talk about the costumes some more, what can I improve on?

In the Canadian Forces, soldiers are allowed to buy their own gear from a few different sources...largely due to budget cutbacks on the gov'ts behalf (Cretian/Martin era). They are also allowed to customize their rifles (sights, grips/handles, stock pouches etc). So, as a result there is lots of variation (in our forces). I'd guess that there's not that much in the US forces because your gov't can actually afford to issue its troops with complete/practical gear (lol...ex/ not sending soldiers to the desert in forest Cadpat (Urban Camo)).

Maybe not a whole lot in the regular infantry/National Guard, but a lot of special forces troops, even SWAT officers, buy gear off of companies like www.blackhawkindustries.com and customize their rifles with aimpoints, scopes, etc.
And Gyro, costumes look fine, concentrate on other areas to make sure the entire thing looks authentic.
