Canon HV-20
I've been looking for a new camera for a year now and have found the Canon HV-20, does anyone know if this is a good choice for $1,000?
it's a brilliant camera...they have footage up on www.dvinfo.net from this camera...raw footage in M2T format...it's big, but you'll get to see how purty it is.

I would say the HV20 is better than the Sony's, www.camcorderinfo.com
has a lot of reviews, of the HC7 and the HV20.

It's 25 for PAL versions, and 24 for NTSC.
I wouldn't get the HV20 over the HC7 based solely on 24p mode, though. Firstly, you have to have a software that can handle a 24p timeline/workflow. I also read that a lot of people are having problems with the 24p mode on the camera, doing the 3:2 pulldown to convert the footage to true 24p.
But still, it looks like a very nice camera.

This is the part of the review that i had read. i might have miss understood it coz im new to all this so sorry if i have.
Does it mean still shooting?
Cinema-style 25P shooting
Recording 1080/50i movies, the HV20 is Canon’s first HD camcorder designed for home moviemaking that also features switchable frame rates for videos with a truly cinematic touch. True 25P progressive shooting is possible using the HDV PF25 mode; dedicated CINE image mode also helps to reproduce the look and feel of film.

25p in the UK (PAL) it may still support 24P at the same time replacing the 30P option with 25P. Even if not, a 6% reduction in speed will produce a 24P piece and probably won't even be enough to tell the difference in the actor's voices.

Clarence talking about what you said about some software having a problem with 24p camcorder and reading them, and will have to find one that will read it.Clarence wrote:It's 25 for PAL versions, and 24 for NTSC.

What is the ideal speed of the frame rate that software will not have any problem with, but the quality is still good.
Ignore the 24fps bit. You live in England and nothing is shown on TV at 24fps in the UK (it's sped up to meet our frame rates, i.e. 25fps)tecmeister wrote:Clarence talking about what you said about some software having a problem with 24p camcorder and reading them, and will have to find one that will read it.Clarence wrote:It's 25 for PAL versions, and 24 for NTSC.

So don't get confused when people talk about 24fps and 30fps. If you buy a camera in the uk it will be 25fps and probably nothing else so it's all good.
