RE: explosive squibs
Hard to find info because they are hard to make and generally kept secret by those who can for various reasons...one being your own safety

RE: explosive squibs
It is typically a small gunpowder charge, electronically detonated. Squibs are a simple concept, but generally dangerous. Lethal if inexperienced. This is why technitions are hired to install such explosives.

I am a total advocate for the use of squibs, since compressed air might look good in some circumstances, butbmostly it is too blunt, too big, all these hoses and stuff and the actor cannot move freely with all that stuff attached to him. Furtermore 3D and stock footage effects look really ridiculous. I cannot even stand watching at shootouts with bullethits just keyed in. I loath it. No go for the real deal but remember: if you want to use squibs on actors, try to really knwo what you are doing. Try them on cardboard dummies so you know what to expect. If you want to make them like the guys from the other post with firecrackers, then don't bother... use the compressed airsquib instead . firecrackers are foolish things. they smoke, you cannot time them, your shirt starts burning...
Use e-matches(bought in hobbyrocketsupply stores ) and stick them in a small cardboard tube with some flash powder(best) or black powder(not grainy, really powdered up works best) put some tape over it. stick the squib inside , under or on top of the bloodpack , attach the e-match to a 9 volt battery. bang!
