How do they do that, and is the a cheap porgram that can do it. I have Paintshop pro and adobe premire.

i just make 3d bullets then make a big line of toruses(rings) and give them a white 99 or 98 or some transparency with a very small refraction, 0.01

easiest way i found was using after effects. as long as the bullets either comming towards or going away from camera just use the ripple effect included in after effects it can look awesome in slow motion as well. you'll have to tinker with the ripple size and length their on screen for the effect to work properly but it does give a really good looking effect

Good point foxwood - So you could do anything that's a "bullet" effect, and folks would buy it!

I cant believe there hasnt been any filmings of bullets leaving a gun.

I dunno whether the effect is similiar than that but I guess there is an effect in the air.

Yes, but do you actually see what the effect of the bullet on the air looks like? For all you know, it could just glow green for a split second!

If you film with a super fast recording camera? (dunno what their actual name is)

Thousands of frames in a second?

what you would see is a puff of cloud, and some sparks, not the standred movie flash, and you would see the bullet, come through the smoke, movieng it like somthing going at super sonic speed would. If their were ripples you don't see them.

In the Matrix, the ripple affect was added for two reasons

REASON NUMERO UNO: Without it, you couldn't see the actual bullets, it would look like the character was doing the limbo for no reason

REASON NUMERO TWO-O: It looks cool

The fact that bullets move fast is a very helpful thing in my view, especially for people with no way of getting footage onto a PC (me until Friday). It means you don't need to tie fishing line around a toy bullet and dangle it around like a spastic, you can just pretend its there.

Search for some videos or pics of actual bullets flying through the air or targets captured by the camera at incredible speeds and their is a displacement of air there. Can't be seen at true speed though with the naked eye

I was just watching DareDevil and though of this, they had bullets, with the squigle but was the sound, not the air, and I thought now that is where you would have the squigle.

there are indeed movies of bullets exiting a gun and:
-going trough an appel
-hitting the camera

you can actually see the bullet, but it's rather black/red/blurry...

To see somewhat a bullet and the impact, on the coming on part of CSI they shoot an apple at slow motion. But the bullet is bully because its going so fast, that only the fastist camera will ever catch it.

That is of course unless you're in an illusional environment such as The Matrix!

It seems that Hollywood is throwing anything at us, and we're just believing it cuz it looks good!
